Rain, snow and much colder air heading our way
<TONIGHT: Clouds will build overnight as temperatures drop into the upper 20s north to low 30s south. We’ll see frost by Thursday morning as winds will be fairly light out of the west up to 5 mph. Even though the winds are light, you can expect wind chills to dip into the 20s for the AM commute Thursday.
THURSDAY: Clouds move back in Thursday, leading to a chance of light rain by late afternoon. The dry air in place will eat away at the moisture as it moves in Thursday but by evening rain is possible along with some snow mixing in and changing over to snow. Temperatures will fall Thursday night to freezing from north to south but not until after 10 PM. As the ground cools, it’s possible we could see minor snow accumulation mainly in grassy surfaces with up to a 1 inch possible north of Hwy 50. Roads should be fine but those that cool faster such as bridges and overpasses, could have minor snow accumulation to watch for early Friday morning.
EXTENDED: Temperatures start off in the upper 20s Friday morning, only reaching into the upper 30s in the afternoon as another fast moving wave of low pressure aloft moves through. This will bring a chance of flurries or brief light snow Friday afternoon but no accumulation is expected from this. A hard freeze is expected Friday night as we dip into the upper teens by Saturday morning which could break the record low of 18 from 1926. Right now the weekend looks dry but cold as we remain in the upper 30s for highs Saturday, warming into the mid 40s Sunday. We are keeping an eye on the potential for snow Sunday night into Monday but until there is more agreement on forecast models, confidence is low. Another surge of cold air moves in Monday, dropping our high temperatures back into the upper 30s Tuesday. Watch ABC 17 News for the latest on our changing weather and check back here for updates.>
