Columbia police arrest two in homicide investigation

UPDATE 11:59 p.m.

Columbia police confirmed two people were arrested in connection with the deadly shooting at the Links Apartments on Monday morning.

According to a press release, officers arrested Alex Glay, 20, of Columbia and Erick Libimbi, 20, of Columbia.

Police said Glay and Libimbi were arrested on suspicion of second degree murder and distribution of a controlled substance.

UPDATE 10:47 p.m.

The Columbia Police Department has identified a deceased victim from this morning’s shooting at the Links Apartments. Nasir Smith, 14, of Columbia, was found with a fatal gunshot wound at 11:32 a.m. A second victim was found with a non-life threatening gunshot wound and has not yet been identified.

1:04 P.M.: City of Columbia spokesman Steve Sapp confirmed police were investigating a homicide at The Links apartment complex.

The Columbia Police Department had said earlier it was investigating a “possible homicide,”

Sapp said police were called at about 11:30 a.m. and found two people outside a building with gunshot wounds. One was dead when police arrived, the other had wounds that were not life threatening, he said.

Sapp said police were not yet ready to release the men’s identity and were still trying to piece together what happened. He encouraged anyone with information to call CPD or CrimeStoppers.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw police taking two young men into custody.

ORIGINAL:The Columbia Police Department says it’s investigating a “possible homicide.”

The department tweeted that it is looking into the possible killing at 5018 Clark Lane in The Links apartment complex. Police provided no other details.
