Bernskoetter wins the Sixth Senate District

Republican Mike Bernskoetter has won the state Senate seat formerly held by current Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe.

Bernskoetter won Missouri’s Sixth Senate District seat with 52,861 votes while Democratic opponent Nicole Thompson ended with 17,783.

Bernskoetter said his legislative experience as a House representative will help him “move to the other side of the building” as a state senator.

“I think people responded to the message well with lower taxes, less government and I’m really happy with all the support we’ve got,” he said.

Watch parties for the candidates in Missouri’s Sixth Senate District were bustling as candidates and supporters waited for results to come in from across the country.

Thompson said she is very thankful for all the help she received during this campaign.

“It’s just fun to be here and work with everyone who has worked on the campaign and who has worked so hard to organize this year,” she said.

Bernskoetter has held the 59th House District seat since 2010 and was term-limited out of office.

He supports state tax cuts and does not support any medical marijuana proposals appearing on the ballot.

Thompson was a first-time Democratic candidate. She has a master’s degree in business administration and has experience working in occupational safety and health.

Both candidates held watch parties in Jefferson City.
