Black and Gold shooter pleads guilty
The man suspected of shooting one person at the Black and Gold Bar parking lot shooting in April pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon on Monday, according to court filings.
Miles Leighton Hillegas, 21, of Columbia was a student at the University of Missouri at the time of the shooting.
According to court documents, the victim went outside of the business to tell two people to leave the property. Hillegas armed himself with a sledge hammer and started swinging at the victim.
Hillegas then got in his car and tried to run the victim over. The victim started walking toward the business to go inside, and looked back toward Hillegas’ vehicle. Hillegas fired at the victim and shot him in the upper right thigh.
The victim said he didn’t know Hillegas but was able to show authorities a picture of the vehicle’s license plate.
He was later arrested in Ward County, Texas. Hillegas will be sentenced in December.
