Wrongful death lawsuit filed in baby’s death

A Jefferson City couple filed a wrongful death lawsuit on Friday in connection to the death of their 5-month old child.

According to court documents, the couple filed the lawsuit against their rental property owners Bodey and Rachel Carson. The lawsuit claims their home in the 400 block of W. Dunklin Street had loose, exposed electrical wires.

The child fell onto the exposed wires on Sept. 30, according to the lawsuit, causing the wires to “pierce the upper abdomen and right upper thigh” of the child. It also caused the child to be electrocuted, resulting in death.

The couple said they had told their landlords about the exposed wiring and their concerns, according to the lawsuit. However, the Carsons said the wires were intended to be connected to a heating unit but were not connected to any electrical source and could not cause harm, the lawsuit said.

The plaintiffs have requested a jury trial in the case.
