Two Moberly officers suffer minor injuries

Two Moberly police officers had minor injuries after a vehicle dragged them about 10 feet late Saturday.

Police stopped an Oldsmobile Alero at about 9:40 p.m. Saturday for a stop sign violation and found the driver was a 46-year-old man wanted for an ex parte violation, the Moberly Police Department said in a news release. The man refused to get out of the car and put the vehicle in reverse when officers tried to remove him, the department said. The officers were caught by the open front doors and dragged backward about 10 feet.

Both officers were able to free themselves when the driver started driving the car forward, according to the release. Officers called off the chase after a short vehicle pursuit because of the suspect’s reckless driving, police said.

The department plans to refer information to the Randolph County prosecutor’s office for consideration of charges.

Police did not release the driver’s identity.
