SportsZone Football Friday week six preview: Battle looks for 50th program win

The Battle Spartans face off against the Hickman Kewpies Friday at 7:00 p.m. looking for their 50th win in their six-year program history.

The Spartans enter the game 3-2 overall after a 60-33 loss to Jackson at home. Meanwhile, the Hickman Kewpies are 1-4 after losing the Providence Bowl to Rock Bridge 31-0. The Kewpies have lost four games in a row after a last-second thrilling victory in week one.

The Kewpies are led by first-year head coach Cedric Alvis, quarterback Jevean Brown and running back Christian Davis. The Spartans are led by sixth-year head coach Justin Conyers, quarterback Jaren Lewis and cornerback Jaylon Williamson.

The Rock Bridge Bruins and Jefferson City Jays square off Friday at 7:00 p.m. as well. Both teams sit at 3-2 looking to earn a statement win.

After losing two of their last three games, the Bruins shut out Hickman last week. The Jays meanwhile have won three of their last four games despite a loss last week to Chaminade 49-42.

First-year Jays head coach Terry Walker and quarterback Devin Roberson lead Jefferson City into the matchup. Meanwhile, running back Nate Peat, head coach Van Vanatta and safety Martez Manuel lead the Bruins.

On Saturday, the Tolton Trail Blazers travel to face the Helias Crusaders. The Crusaders are 2-3 on the season, while the Blazers are 1-4 overall.
