Flooding causes at least $100,000 in damage to Hearnes Center

The Hearnes Center floor may need more than $100,000 worth of repairs after flooding early Saturday morning.

A water main broke outside the facility and damaged the arena floor.

MU spokesperson Christian Basi said it is still too early to know the exact total, but he said the damage will likely be more than $100,000.

“It is definitely a concern. The water did reach the floor,” Basi said.

Basi added that a crew was on-site today working to clean and assess the damage.

The next time Mizzou athletics will use the Hearnes Center is Oct. 5 when the Tiger volleyball team plays South Carolina.

MU deputy athletic director Nick Joos said, “It would be premature to speculate until we get the clean up completed and see where we stand.”

MU spokesperson Andy Oldenburg said it is still too early to know if the water damage to the floor will affect the game on Oct. 5. The team practices daily at the Hearnes Center, but there is no decision whether or not the team will have to move locations in the meantime.

Basi said, “There are no events scheduled in the Hearnes center for several days, which will allow us time to clean.
