Sunrise Beach fire board president resigns

The Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District board president has resigned less than a week after the chief resigned.

Board President Brian Layman resigned Thursday, the fire district said in a news release. The district will continue to “provide quality services,” the release said. The release gave no reason for the resignation.

On Friday fire chief Dennis Reilly stepped down, saying he wanted to explore other job possibilities. At the district board meeting Monday Reilly attributed his resignation to factors included false allegations against him and harassment. He did not provide specifics.

During the meeting several residents indicated board member Bob Hemen was responsible for some problems. Hemen was unseated by Layman.

The board also held an emergency closed session on Wednesday at which it voted unanimously to assure the public that staff will still be able to perform all fire district duties.
