Columbia man indicted on child pornography charges

A federal grand jury indicted a Columbia man Wednesday on child pornography charges.

Steven D. French, 60, was charged with one count of receiving or distributing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography in federal court in Jefferson City. The indictment charges him with downloading child porn from the internet and attempting to upload child pornography.

Authorities searched French’s home on Aug. 29 and seized computers and other electronic media, the office of the U.S. attorney said in a news release. The investigation turned up images depicting child pornography and evidence that French had received child pornography, according to the release.

His arraignment is set for Oct. 9.
