UPDATE: Columbia police arrest one after fight between neighbors

UPDATE – 9/18: Columbia police confirmed a woman is in custody after a fight between two neighbors.

Staci Smith, 39, is facing possible fourth-degree assault charges stemming from an altercation in the 2000 block of Whispering Oaks around 6:15 p.m. Monday.

Witnesses told police a firearm was shown during the fight, but officers didn’t find one at the scene.

One person suffered minor injuries in the skirmish.

ORIGINAL: The Columbia Police Department responded to a disturbance involving a weapon Monday night.

It happened around 6 p.m. in the 2000 block of Whispering Meadows Court.

Police said a gun was fired during a disturbance between two neighbors, but no one was hit.

One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to officers.

Police said one person is in custody, however officers did not release the person’s name or potential charges.

Online dispatch records show officers have responded to Whispering Meadows Court for nine disturbances in the last year.
