Man in life threatening condition after shooting on Leeway Drive

Columbia police confirm a man was shot Wednesday just before 6:00 p.m. on Leeway Drive in east Columbia.

Witnesses said they heard between three and seven shots, and heard tires pealing just afterwards.

The center of the investigation is an apartment building just north of Leeway Drive. There are several evidence markers on the ground just in front of the staircase.

Police said the victim was driven to the hospital in a private vehicle and is currently in life threatening condition.

Police are not releasing any suspect information at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.

There are still several officers on the scene. A lieutenant told ABC 17 News that detectives are taking over the investigation.

There’s no word on when the scene will be cleared.
