UPDATE: Power restored for most of Moberly

UPDATE 10: 00 p.m. “We were watching TV then all of a sudden we heard hail and then a loud boom! Next thing we knew, the power went out,” a Moberly resident said.

Homes in Moberly on Promenade street showed signs of restored power after reports showed more than 1,500 homes were without power.

ABC 17 News crew noticed a tree that took out a power line causing city officials to block off the area.

A Moberly fire official who was on the scene said although he couldn’t confirm, he was hearing the hospital was also without power.

ABC 17 News contacted Moberly Regional Medical Center on Union Avenue and was advised by a staff member power was out for roughly an hour.

The staff member said when power went out, the hospital’s generator kicked in but power is now back on.

John Foster, a dedicated stormtracker spoke to our crews and said he had heard hail as the size of golf balls and is concerned he will notice his roof will be damaged in the early morning.

Moberly police said Ameren UE is continuing to work on fixing any additional power issues and are asking people to only contact them in an emergency only.

UPDATE, 9:55 p.m.: Crews have restored power to most of Moberly. Less than 200 people are still without power, according to the Ameren outage map.

ORIGINAL: Ameren is reporting five outages in Moberly, leaving more than 1,500 people without power Thursday night.

According to the Ameren outage map at 9 p.m. Thursday, 1,527 people in Moberly have lost power. Ameren says all of the outages began around 8:30 p.m., and power is expected to be restored around 10:30 p.m.

Viewers have reported heavy rain and golf ball-sized hail in the area.
