City holds second meeting after several downtown Columbia shootings

City leaders held a second closed-door meeting Tuesday in response to the recent shootings downtown.

ABC 17 News has been told an update is expected Wednesday.

The meeting comes after four different shootings downtown in just three weeks. On July 29, two separate shootings happened-one at Hitt and Broadway and another at Williams and Walnut. The following weekend, bullets damaged a window at Midici and on August 11, a shooting happened on Broadway and 6th.

ABC 17 News checked in with businesses today to find out if they are satisfied with the city’s response. One manager of a popular downtown bar said the city is working with businesses and being incredibly proactive.

Amid the uptick in violence, one common theme being shared is the need for more police officers. A city spokesperson previously told ABC 17 News officers will be doing downtown patrols for the next several weeks.
