Three cars, two homes hit by gunfire on Hanover Blvd.

UPDATE: Police are now saying that possibly four cars and two homes were struck by gunfire on Hanover Blvd. this afternoon at 2:15 p.m.

One resident, Debbie Shatlain, who lives right next door said she was with her grandchild when she heard the 12-15 pops.

“It sounded like someone set off a bunch of fireworks. It was pop, pop, pop, pop. Pop, pop, pop, pop,” Shatlain said.

She said she and her grandson immediately took cover.

“I grabbed him and I put my back towards the window, and down to the floor, I went to protect him. He’s not even three yet,” Shatlain said.

Columbia Police Lieutenant, Eric Hughes, said residents called in the gunfire, bringing police to the scene.

“Some male subjects were shooting from the car up towards the houses and then fled the scene,” Hughes said.

Shatlain said she thinks the suspects were shooting at a particular house that sustained most of the damage.

ABC 17 asked Lt. Hughes if the two shooting are related.

“We’re looking to whether it’s connected to the other shooting,” Hughes said.

ABC 17 also asked Hughes if it scares her knowing there’s been two shootings in less than a week, right next door.

“I think they’re ridiculous. It ridiculous. It’s not necessary,” Shatlain said.

She said with all the recent shootings, her family now has a drive-by shooting drill in place.

According to police reports, police have been called to Hanover Blvd. almost 300 times in the last year.

Police said they have no leads, but the vehicle is described as a grey sedan.

UPDATE: A spokesperson for the Columbia Police Department confirms three cars and two buildings were hit by gunfire after a drive-by shooting Sunday afternoon.
