Overnight storms cause wind damage in Mid-Missouri

A line of storms tracking through Mid-Missouri early Tuesday morning spawned some wind damage in parts of Mid-Missouri. Initially the storms were firing along a frontal boundary draped across the state, but quickly strengthened as they tracking into very unstable air. The strong storms were confined to a localized area north of I-70. As the storms tracked through Mid-Missouri they produced strong winds up to 60 mph, causing damage and power outages.

Here are the storm reports we received:

– Centralia Police Department state that there are numerous power outages in the area. Multiple trees and limbs were down per officers patrolling the area. No estimate of wind speed or tree and limb sizes at the time of call. Time of event was around 12:05 AM.

– Mexico Police Department reported trees and power lines down through the area with multiple power outages. Department continued to receive high winds at the time of call around 12:30 AM.

– There were at least around 600 power outages reported across Mid-Missouri early Tuesday morning from the storms. It hasn’t been confirmed whether all power has been restored back to customers.

While a marginal risk of severe weather still exists for parts of Mid-Missouri, any storms today should remain below severe criteria due to cloud coverage and temperatures keeping the atmosphere remaining fairly stable.
