UM System President’s contract extended two years

UM System President Mun Choi received a two-year extension on his contract Friday.

The UM Board of Curators made the announcement in Springfield at the end of a two-day development session.

Choi, who previously served as provost at the University of Connecticut, started his position with the UM System in March 2017. His current contract ends June 30, 2022. He is currently paid an annual base salary of $530,000.

The UM Board of Curators voted unanimously to extend Dr. Choi’s contract Friday. Board Chairman David Steelman said the extension represents their “commitment to Dr. Choi and the transformation of this system.”

Choi came to the system less than two years after protests on MU’s campus propelled the university into a negative national spotlight. Both lawmakers and university leaders have repeatedly praised his leadership as the 24th UM System president.
