Police remove dozens of animals from Fulton home

UPDATE 7/27: The Fulton Police Department released a complete list of animals removed from the home in the 600 block of Grand Avenue on Wednesday.

Police said officers recovered six cockatiel and parakeets, five hedgehogs, one guinea pig, one box turtle, one hamster, eight dogs, 57 quail, 41, chickens, seven ducks, one turkey, two lambs, five pigeons, one bearded dragon and a red tail boa for a total of 137 live animals.

Investigators also removed four dead rabbits and two dead chickens from the home.

According to the police department, the animals are being cared for and checked out for any medical conditions.

UPDATE 5:52 P.M.: Police have issued Melissa Baxter, 50, of Fulton, a citation for animal abuse and neglect.

According to the Fulton Police Department, investigators executed a search warrant at the home in the 600 block of Grand Avenue for animal abuse.

Several animals were removed from the home included, dogs, chickens, lambs, hedgehogs, guineas, pigeons, quail, guinea pigs, hamsters, reptiles and unhatched eggs.

Police said officers would release more information at a later date.

ORIGINAL: The Fulton Police Department continued to investigate after dozens of animals were removed from a home in the city Thursday.

Police Chief Steve Myers told ABC 17 News the animals removed from the home in the 600 block of Grand Avenue included dogs, chickens, hedgehogs and at least one snake.

Myers said some of the animals removed from the home were dead, but he wasn’t sure which animals were deceased.

Animals that were still alive were taken to the Fulton Animal Control Shelter at 60 W. Industrial Road.

Myers added that it’s too early in the investigation to determine whether or not police will file charges.
