Two arrested in Cole County for drug, weapon violations
Two people could face new charges after the Cole County Sheriff’s Department recovers several guns and a variety of drugs Thursday night.
According to investigators, deputies responded to a possible weapons violation in the 2700 block of Bess Street around 11:25 p.m.
The Sheriff’s Department said deputies found an intoxicated male and female at the scene, and both were shooting off fireworks.
During the course of the investigation, deputies reported a handgun and a bag of marijuana were seen in a nearby truck in plain sight.
A search of the truck led to the discovery of three handguns, 134 grams of methamphetamine, 30 grams of molly, 34 grams of marijuana, four clonazepam pills, 27 grams of an unknown substance, digital scales and several used syringes.
Both suspects were taken to the Cole County Jail on possible charges of drug trafficking, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
Investigators haven’t released the names of the suspects.
