Man charged in connection with stolen checks at assisted living facility

Prosecutors charged a man in Cole County after he allegedly attempted to cash a stolen check at a bank in Jefferson City.

According to court documents, Jordan Booker attempted to cash the stolen check for $492.

Police said after further investigation, they discovered the incident is related to a rash of thefts at Lenoir Woods Assisted Living in Columbia, where “employees have been stealing checks from elderly residents.”

The probable cause statement said the checks were handed out in a money making scheme where suspects would try to cash them at different banks.

The account holder in Booker’s case told investigators he never wrote the check.

The teller at the bank asked for a thumbprint to be placed on the check, which the suspect provided. However, documents said the suspect left while the teller was getting approval from her manager.

The thumbprint was sent to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Laboratory for analysis, which led investigators to Booker.
