UPDATE: Police arrest man following reports of home invasion, gunshots

UPDATE 7/7: Columbia police said they were called to the 1200 block of north Eighth Street around 3:50 p.m. Friday for reports of a home invasion and shots fired.

Police said that during their initial investigation they found that a man had forced entry into a home and discharged a weapon. They said the victim and the suspected invader knew each other.

Officers and a K-9 unit at the residence and started searching for the man, who had fled the area, police said.

Police said that around 5:30 p.m., the suspected invader was found and taken into custody.

The door to the home was the only property damage reported and there were no reports of injuries, police said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and asked for anyone who has information about the incident to call the Columbia Police Department at 573-874-7652, or CrimeStoppers at 573-875-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.

ORIGINAL: There’s a large police presence on 8th Street in Columbia.

Viewers have called ABC 17 News suggesting police are searching for an armed suspect in central Columbia.

We heard reports earlier Friday about a possible burglary on 8th Street, but no word on if that incident has any connection to the police presence.
