Fireworks cause garage fire in northeast Columbia

Used fireworks caused a garage fire Wednesday night in northeast Columbia.

It happened in the 3400 block of Oakland place around 9:20 p.m.

Firefighters said they found heavy flames coming from a home’s garage when they arrived.

Two people inside the house were able to make it out safely without any injuries.

The Columbia Fire Department said used fireworks inside a trash can in the garage were determined to be the cause of the blaze.

The fire caused about $50,000 in damage.
