Gov. Parson signs state budget

Gov. Mike Parson signs the state budget today.

The budget prioritizes improving infrastructure, increasing workforce development, curbing opioid abuse, funding K-12 education and stabilizing higher education budgets.

“We applaud the General Assembly for their efforts to fund critical functions of government, including infrastructure, workforce development and education funding,” Parson said.

The budget includes a $99 million increase to public education increase, and an increase in state- workers’ salaries.

A total of $70 million will be allocated to infrastructure and workforce development projects.

The total state budget is $28.6 billion.

“Government budgets are no different than our own at home,” Parson said. “We must operate within our means, make fiscally responsible decisions and invest wisely to ensure our next generation is given the same opportunities to succeed.”

Parson vetoed 21 line items totaling more than $12 million.
