Dangerous heat sticks around into the weekend

*EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING (CHARITON, COOPER, HOWARD, PETTIS, RANDOLPH, & SALINE) 12 PM THURSDAY UNTIL 7 PM SATURDAY.*

*HEAT ADVISORY ISSUED FOR THE REST OF MID-MISSOURI UNITL 10 PM SATURDAY*

TODAY: With abundant sunshine, temperatures will heat up quickly into the upper 90s this afternoon. The humidity will make it feel like 105 to 112, with highest heat indices in rural areas due to higher humidity near cornfields. Winds will come in from the south up to 12 mph. If you have plans for Friday evening, feels like temperatures will remain in the 90s until just after 9 PM.

TONIGHT: Tonight temperatures will only drop towards the mid to upper 70s by daybreak Saturday. Skies remain mostly clear with winds out of the south from 5 to 7 mph.

EXTENDED: The hot, sticky weather continues Saturday as high temperatures reach the mid to upper 90s and heat indices climb up to 110 degrees under sunny skies. The ridge of high pressure aloft will break down starting Sunday, which will allow a cold front to track through the region. This will bring the return of scattered showers and storms by Sunday afternoon and evening and bring high temperatures down to near 90. We’ll monitor Sunday’s storms for the potential of being strong or possibly severe. The is a marginal risk for severe weather bringing the chance for damaging winds, as well as large hail, but this could change as the storms begin to develop and progress ahead of the front. The weak frontal boundary will stall over the area Monday and lift back north Tuesday, keeping our storm chances going into early next week. By the 4th of July, high pressure aloft strengthens once again and at this time it looks hot and dry with highs in the mid 90s.
