Charges filed in Lake of the Ozarks boat crash

EDITOR'S NOTE: Charges were later dropped.

Prosecutors charged a man Tuesday in Camden County in connection with an overnight boat crash at the Lake of the Ozarks.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's crash report, the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday near mile marker 32.

The report said 25-year-old Derek Van Kluyve crashed a boat into a dock, striking another vessel in the process. Van Kluyve and his two passengers suffered minor injuries.

Van Kluyve is charged in Camden County with boating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to court documents, Van Kluyve fledthe scene, but was later found in the woods "well away from the crash scene."

Documents said the dock Van Kluyve struck sustained damage to support beams, damage to the roof, the boat lift and numerous concrete blocks. The other vessel that was struck sustained "massive damage to the stern and engine area, resulting in the vessel being a total loss," according to court documents.

Online court records show Van Kluyve's bond was set at $3,000.
