Uncomfortable heat sticks around through Tuesday, with stormy conditions to return
**HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MONDAY AT 8PM AND TUESDAY AT 8 PM**
TODAY: It’s another hot and sunny afternoon across Mid-Missouri, as temperatures continue to climb into the low to mid 90s. With the air remaining on the humid side, afternoon heat indices will approach 100-105 degrees in many spots. It’s important to stay hydrated and make sure to properly apply sunscreen if you have to be outdoors. Some relief is possible into the afternoon if a few pop up storms can get going, but overall it will remain dry for the region.
TONIGHT: Another uncomfortable evening is in store as temperatures settle into the middle 70s. Few clouds will begin to track across the region, with light winds out of the south up to 10 mph..
EXTENDED: A fairly significant shift in upper level activity will signal to a pattern change across mid-Missouri. As we break down the stubborn ridge over the southeast, it will give way to seasonal temperatures and dropping humidity across the region as temperatures begin to drop back into the mid 80s through the week. The depression of that ridge will also give an opportunity for a stationary boundary to hang over northern Missouri, which will bring the return of an active weather pattern. By Tuesday afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms will increase across mid-Missouri, especially north of I-70. With these storms there is a marginal risk for severe weather in our northern counties, which brings the potential for damaging winds and large hail Tuesday afternoon and evening. A marginal risk continues west of HWY 63 on Wednesday with continued chances for t-storms. Increasing rain chances will provide for some drought relief across the area within the next 7 days. Higher rainfall totals look north of I-70, which could range up to 3″, and up to 1.5″ south. With the area experiencing a drought of some kind for quite awhile, we can deal with a good amount of rain. However, if we begin to see training of storms and locations exceed 3+ inches of rain before the middle of the week, we could begin to see some flooding problems. This looks to primarily affect those along and north of I-70. Watch ABC 17 News for the latest forecast and check back here for updates.
