Jefferson City close portion of Monroe Street until at least end of week
Jefferson City road crews will close the 600 block of Monroe Street Monday morning to remove a retaining wall.
City officials said the retaining wall had been slowly moving over a period of at least six months. The city engineer said the wall moved less than half an inch.
Even though less than half an inch doesn’t seem like a lot, the city engineer said because many drivers use the road, if the wall did fall it could be catastrophic.
The construction closed the alley parallel to the 600 block of Monroe Street on Friday, but crews said the alley will remain closed permanently.
According to the official press release, the 600 block of Monroe Street, between Hwy 50/63 and East Dunklin, will be closed from Monday, June 18 at 6 a.m. and will reopen on Friday, June 22 at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
East Cedar Way can be accessed from Madison Street. Property with drive access from the 600 Monroe Street can be accessed from Hwy 50/63.
