Several big construction projects underway in Columbia

There’s always new business construction going on in Columbia, especially as the city expands.

ABC 17 News looked into some of those projects to find out their progress.

Cherry Hill Dental is expanding service to the southwest side of town near the corner of Bethel Street and Nifong Road. Right now, the group has three locations: Columbia, Fulton and Jefferson City. Office manager Anna Ramm said a second location in Columbia will help the dental group better serve its patient base coming in for checkups.

“We do a pretty good job now of working patients in, especially if they’re in pain,” she said. “I think, fortunately for us, business is good and we really wanted to be in a location that is more visible.”

Ramm said the new location is expected to open in January.

A new Addison’s restaurant is popping up down the road from the future site of Cherry Hill Dental. It’s just adjacent to the Scott Blvd. roundabout. From conception to completion, the plan will have been in the works for about two years.

“We wanted to offer people on the south side of town an option for a restaurant that was closer to home, and we felt like our Addison’s concept would work well there,” said Matt Jenne, one of the co-owners. “It is a bit of a food desert in that specific western, southwestern area.”

Jenne said the plan is to be finished by fall.

Shelter Insurance just broke ground on a new building Tuesday morning at Broadway and Ash Streets.

According to a press release, “the new 100,000 square foot, two-story building, with partial lower level basement, will be located to the north of the Shelter Insurance headquarters and will be the home of Shelter’s local claims office, serve as a distribution center for the company’s shipping, receiving and print and mailing operations, as well as house its graphic design and printing operation.”

Construction begins this month.

Coil Construction is handling all three of these projects. President Randy Coil said these business projects are good for Columbia in terms of turning those dollars over within the community.

“These construction projects bring a lot of dollars back into the community and keep dollars here in terms of what the cost of these buildings are, and the amount of material and labor that goes into building all of these buildings,” said Coil.
