Heat continues with overnight storm chances
MONDAY: Warm morning temperatures are going to set the stage to see afternoon high soar into the middle 90s across Mid-Missouri. Winds will be out of the south at 5-10 mph, helping mix in moisture to push heat indices into the 100-104 degree range. We will see mostly sunny skies through the day.
TONIGHT: A cold front will begin to approach the area this evening bringing a line of showers and thunderstorms into NW mid-Missouri after midnight tonight. Storms that form out ahead of the front Monday evening will be the strongest, but weakening as they track into our area. Regardless, most of mid-Missouri can expect scattered thunderstorms by tonight that bring the potential for large hail and some gusty conditions. Overnight lows drop into the low 70s under partly cloudy skies.
EXTENDED: Most areas will be dry by Tuesday morning for the commute, but we can’t rule out a few scattered t-storms in the wake of the front. With the passage of the boundary we will see slightly more tolerable conditions for Tuesday, but this relief will be short-lived as the humidity returns later in the week. Tuesday afternoon highs are knocked back into the upper 80s with humidity just a little bit lower. The next best chance of rain looks to be Wednesday early in the morning as a MCS sets up to the southwest and tracks into southern parts of mid-Missouri for the morning commute. Areas south of I-70 look to see the strongest storms. Temperatures will hover in the upper 80s to low 90s as we head into the weekend, with spotty chances of showers and thunderstorms staying in the forecast through Thursday.
