Mid-Missouri Business Week: destination care

MU Health is working to market its services as destination care.

Previously, ABC 17 News told you about the task force Mayor Brian Treece created to make Columbia a go-to spot for medical tourism. That task force has since been dissolved.

Dr. Kevin Staveley-O’Carroll, the director of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, was part of that task force.

ABC 17’s Kirstie Crawford sat down with Staveley-O’Carroll to talk about destination care, how it differs from medical tourism and why Columbia is a location for destination care.

“We’re not as interested in setting up tourism, where people come for a medical procedure and then stay to have some tourism during their recovery. We’re focused on navigation: bringing people in for their care, making it seamless, making it patient-centered and then navigating them back to their home community in a seamless way,” Staveley-O’Carroll said.
