Lieutenant Governor Parson prepares to become next governor
Details are expected to be announced this week as Lieutenant Governor Mike Parson prepares to become the next governor of Missouri.
Parson is set to be sworn in on Friday, June 1 at 5 p.m. Parson’s office said it is planning to release details Thursday morning regarding inauguration plans and the swearing-in ceremony.
“We are taking every step and working around the clock to ensure Missouri state government does not miss a beat throughout this transition. My commitment to all Missourians is to listen to them and work together to advance the interests of our great state,” Parson said in a statement Wednesday.
ABC 17 News also confirmed June 11 has been set as a tentative date for Parson to address a joint session of the general assembly.
As of Wednesday night, it was still unclear who would take Parson’s place as lieutenant governor.
Reporters asked Senator Mike Kehoe if he was a candidate for the position. Kehoe replied, “I don’t eliminate any options in the future, but it’s a family decision. If that were to become available, we’d have to decide as a family.”
