One injured after boat hits large wake at Lake of the Ozarks, troopers report
One person was taken to the hospital Sunday morning after their boat hit a large wake, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol online boating records.
The report said the incident occurred around 9 a.m. near the 20-mile marker of Osage Arm at the Lake of the Ozarks.
After the boat struck the large wake, the passenger went airborne and landed on a seat on the boat, according to the report.
The passenger was taken to a local hospital, then was transferred to University Hospital in Columbia. The report said the passenger was wearing a life vest.
Troopers said that Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to the boating season. During Memorial Day weekend last year, troopers said there were 15 boat crashes that resulted in seven people injured and one dead. Troopers also said that two people drowned and they made 20 arrests for boating while intoxicated.
So far this weekend, there have been at least seven boating incidents, no fatalities, and at least six people have been arrested for BWI, according to MSHP online records.
