Tracking record-breaking heat for Memorial Day

TONIGHT: Any thunderstorm activity that does occur will dissipate after sunset this evening. Leftover cloud cover will be filtering out of the area as temperatures dip to the upper 60s and low 70s as the muggy conditions remain.

MEMORIAL DAY: The morning starts off warm as we’re already in the mid-80s by 9am. Into the afternoon temperatures will warm to the low to mid 90s with heat index values approaching the upper 90s again. Fortunately we look to stay dry for the day, but make sure you take care out in the heat. Plenty of sunscreen and water to stay hydrated. Light, bright, loose-fitting clothing as well to help stay cool.

EXTENDED : The rest of the week looks to stay well above average with temperatures hovering around the 90 degree mark. We do have the potential at some relief as the remnants of Alberto slowly drag northward along the Mississippi Valley over the next several days. Rain looks to begin by Wednesday afternoon and scattered showers and storms have the potential to last through Friday evening. A multi-day washout doesn’t look to be in store as of yet, but some heavier downpours aren’t out of the questions during that time period. Stay tuned to ABC 17 for the latest updates to the forecast.
