Air Show celebrates 30th year anniversary in record high heat

With Memorial Day around the corner, a popular air show took place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to celebrate 30 years of those that served our country.

According to one attendee Kiana Grant, Saturday’s and Sunday’s events are a great way to see people come together and honor veterans and those who give back.

“My favorite is seeing all the people who have served our country. I definitely noticed it’s not just a certain type of people. It’s people from all walks of life who protect and serve our country. I definitely love seeing that. Especially here in Columbia,” Grant said.

With temperatures reaching 90s in Columbia, media chair Jessica Houston said it’s important to bring sunscreen but more importantly water to keep hydrated.

“Bring your sunscreen, reapply it multiple times throughout the day. Drink lots of water, stay hydrated and bring ear protection as well because the planes are a little loud. So especially for the little ones, bring some ear protections,” Houston said.

ABC 17 News was at Saturday’s show and saw vendors helping keep people and their family cool on the hot day.

The air show celebrating three decades of honoring and remembering veterans will continue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, with parking and shuttle services available as well.
