MoDOT plans for Grindstone Creek Bridge replacement in 2019

A bridge in Northern Boone County might get replaced next year.

Project manager, Mike Dusenberg of MoDOT said the bridge is in poor condition, “we need a bridge badly.”

Rick Ellington and his wife have lived right next to the bridge for over thirty-five years and they have seen several accidents.

“Probably forty or fifty, some more severe than others, some flew off over into the creek,” said Ellington.

The bridge was built in the 1930’s and stands on misaligned thin pillars, with rusty rails, and eroding cement.

Dusenberg told us they are going to replace the bridge instead of fixing it. He said they will make it six feet wider, add guard railings, and paint road-stripes for night vision.

MoDOT will be hosting a public meeting next Wednesday, May 23rd between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Boone County Public Works Building, 780 East Highway 124, Hallsville.

MoDOT told us they hope to complete project plans by this summer and begin construction next summer. This is a million dollar project they said.
