Feeling like summer, storms Wed night & Thursday
TONIGHT: Another dry night is expected with partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures with lows only dropping into the mid 60s and southerly winds from 12-17 mph, gusting to 25 mph at times.
WEDNESDAY: Storms are possible in northern Missouri in the morning but will likely stay north of HWY 36 and it looks likely Mid-Missouri will stay dry. We’ll have a warm, breezy and partly sunny day with high temperatures reaching the mid 80s which is more like early June. Winds will come in from the south at 15 mph, gusting up to 28 mph, making it feel slightly humid.
EXTENDED: Storm chances will increase Wednesday night into Thursday morning. A line of strong to severe storms is expected to develop in northwestern Missouri Wednesday night near a cold front then sink south into Mid-Missouri after midnight. Areas north of I-70 have a better chance of seeing these storms Wednesday night into Thursday morning and there is a severe storm risk for possible strong wind gusts or large hail. Showers and storms will continue to develop farther south during the day Thursday but the severe risk depends on how much cloud cover lingers from morning storms. There is a slight severe storm risk Thursday for possible damaging wind and large hail but severe storm development could be tricky with the lack of sunshine providing enough daytime heating. However, if storms initialize we could see some with damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado. The final round of storms moves in with the cold front Thursday night and the severe risk continues. These will move out by Friday morning and skies will become mostly sunny with highs reaching the upper 70s. The weekend will start with warm temperatures a we reach 80 degrees Saturday with partly cloudy skies. We’ll see a few more clouds Sunday with highs in the upper 70s. A cold front dropping through Sunday will bring a slight chance of t-storms. Stay tuned to ABC 17 for the latest forecast and updates.
