Columbia man arrested after trying to break into home of person with Order of Protection against him

On Friday at 1:46 a.m., officers were called to the 300 block of Park Avenue in reference to a burglary.

When officers got to the scene, they made contact with Lee Barney, who was on the second story roof trying to get into the home through a window.

Barney was uncooperative with officers and refused to come down off the roof. Barney also tried to put his hand in his pocket multiple times.

After trying but failing to force the window open in front of the officers, Barney attempted to pull himself up onto the roof of the building using the gutter. The gutter broke and Barney fell from the building.

Barney’s person was searched, and officers found a firearm in the pocket Barney was trying to get into before falling.

Officers saw damage to the window Barney was trying to force open, as well as the gutter.

The person inside of the home had an active Order of Protection against Barney.

Barney was arrested on Sunday at 10:25 p.m. in the 2300 block of Hendrix Drive for unlawful possession of a concealable firearm, resisting arrest, property damage in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon, arrest for violation of order of protection and misdemeanor trespassing.
