Judge allows deposition of lawyer for ex-husband of governor’s mistress
The attorney for the man who first shared the story of Gov. Eric Greitens’ affair and possible crime will be deposed as part of the governor’s criminal case.
Judge Rex Burlison allowed Greitens’ attorneys to depose Albert Watkins next Monday. Watkins represents the ex-husband of Greitens’ former mistress, who recorded his conversations with his ex-wife about her affair with Greitens.
Watkins told reported on Monday that someone had anonymously left his firm $100,000 in cash, which he said he had no doubt was related to the fallout of the affair’s revelation in January.
Attorneys for Greitens said that Watkins had made himself a witness by disclosing those payments. They also served subpoenas on his firm to learn more about the payments.
Burlison also allowed the defense to depose Anthony Box, an investigator with the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors opposed the request, claiming Box had a minimal role in the invasion of privacy investigation.
