Man arrested for 32 grams of meth and an unlawful use of a weapon
Traffic stops with narcotics and firearm can be a dangerous combination.
Bradley Hensley was stopped last night and law enforcement found 32 grams of meth and unlawful use of a weapon.
Law enforcement tells ABC 17 that the situation can be deadly, but they have steps and a list of precautions they take to minimize the risk.
Detective Tom O’Sullivan of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department told us that no matter the situation, there’s always a chance things can get ugly.
“You have to assume that it can all go south in a second, ” said O’Sullivan.
Law enforcement told us there can be a struggle if a suspect is under the influence, they can become erratic and violent in their behavior.
The goal is to gain control of the situation.
Instructor Adam Duncan of the Law Enforcement Training Institute said he teaches officers to constantly ask questions when they arrive at a scene.
“I have to as an officer constantly be evaluating what are our risks, what are the benefits, how can I reduce the risks to everyone involved,” said Duncan.
There are a lot of moving parts in a situation and the goal is to get it under control and minimize the risk.
Some tools law enforcement uses to gain control are things like guns, tasers, and pepper spray.
Duncan said they may also use pain compliance to gain decision making control of the suspect.
“The goal is to get the suspect under control as quickly, and as efficiently as possible without any injury to the deputy or the suspect,” said O’Sullivan.
Henley is being held in the Boone County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
