Mo-X advises passengers to put seat belts on, but cannot force them
According to co-owner of Mo-X shuttle service, Brent Moore, any bus built after 2012 is required to have seat belts and the 2010 buses on their lots also have them.
The safety concerns comes after the recent bus accident that occurred Friday in Canada that left 15 killed and 14 injured. Those on the bus were junior hockey players in rural Saskatchewan traveling to a playoff game in a town called Nipawin in Canada when the bus collided with a tractor-trailer.
The crash is still under investigation, according to CNN news.
ABC 17 News discovered seat belts are in place for those looking for transportation using Mo-X but Moore said there are some older buses that were built before regulations went into effect, and they still use them to transport passengers.
Moore said the company advises passengers to wear them but do not force them.
Moore said if it would be required to install them in their older buses, it would cost a fortune.
He also said there is just no telling of what the outcome can be when an accident takes place, seat belt or not.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) said they enforce regulations for drivers to have their seat belts but not passengers.
