ORIGINAL: The second Annual Molly’s Miles 5K is expected to bring hundreds of runners to Columbia on Saturday morning.
Molly’s Miles 5K is named in honor of Columbia police Officer Molly Bowden. She was shot and killed in the line of duty in 2005.
The event was created to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty and their surviving families.
The run starts at 8 a.m. at the Boone Nifong Medical Center and the course is centered around the Molly Bowden Memorial Park.
The 5K will feature flags and dedicatory signs for all 676 Missouri law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Missouri Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors, which provides resources to families and co-workers of fallen officers.
