Columbia man arrested after assaulting victim, breaking door, slashing tires, police say
A Columbia man is facing a few charges after allegedly going on a rampage that including choking a victim, throwing dresser drawers and slashing her car tires, police said.
Columbia police said they were dispatched to the 200 block of Old Highway 63 Friday afternoon for reports of an assault..
Police said they found that William Campbell, 20, had gotten into an argument with a 19-year-old female victim. Police said Campbell and the victim were in a relationship.
The victim told police Campbell started pulling clothes out of her dresser and when she tried to stop him, he pushed her onto her bed and started choking her, according to police.
Police said the victim was able to get Campbell off of her and he started to throw the drawers to her dresser, which caused them to break. The victim told police she was able to get Campbell out of her room and locked him out.
Police said the victim reported that Campbell then kicked the door open, which broke the door frame, and used a knife to cut a pair of the victim’s jeans. Police said Campbell then slashed three tires on the victim’s car before he fled.
Police said they found Campbell near Country Club Drive and searched him. They said they found marijuana in a bag that Campbell was carrying.
Police said they arrested Campbell on charges of felony domestic assault, misdemeanor property damage and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.
