Attorney General Josh Hawley announces investigation into Facebook
Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley is scheduled to hold a press conference Monday morning to discuss a new investigation into the social networking site Facebook.
This comes as Facebook is under fire for allegedly granting the political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica access to data of at least 50 million users. The firm has ties to President Trump’s 2016 campaign.
Hawley said his office has issued an investigative subpoena to the site “demanding information related to this alleged mishandling of user data,” according to a statement.
The investigation will be into if, or how much, data is accessible to political campaigns, and whether or not users are properly notified.
“Missourians must be able to trust that tech companies are honest about what they do with private consumer data,” Hawley said.
