Ashland man arrested after attempting to cash fake check, police say

Columbia police said they arrested a man on Friday after they investigated a fraud at a Missouri Credit Union Bank.

Police said they were first called to the bank at 2101 West Broadway on March 28. They said the investigation revealed Jamie Mason, 31, of Ashland, tried to cash a fake check at the bank.

Police said they also found that Mason tried to cash a forged check from a separate victim at the same bank the day before.

Mason was arrested for a felony warrant on Friday, police said.

Police said while they were interviewing Mason at the Boone County Jail on Saturday, Mason stood up, yelled and tried to lift up the table between him and the officer.

Police said Mason then raised his fist and the officer thought that Mason was going to hit him. Officers said Mason continued to struggle against the officers while they tried to put him in handcuffs.

Police said Mason was also arrested on Saturday on charges of felony forgery, felony resisting arrest and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault.
