Human remains found near Tebbetts, death investigation underway

The discovery of human remains near Tebbetts Friday sparked a death investigation by the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to a house on County Road 486 around 4:50 p.m. after people called about finding a body.

Upon arrival, deputies found human remains that were in “an advanced stage of decomposition,” according to a statement issued by the Sheriff’s Office on Saturday.

The statement also said that the identity of the remains as well as the cause of death are unknown.

A forensic examination will be carried out by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Columbia, which is expected to be completed on April 2.
