Callaway County deputies arrest armed felon after brief foot pursuit

UPDATE 3/30: Smith was charged with resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a gun.

ORIGINAL STORY: Callaway County deputies arrested Harold Smith, 53, on Thursday afternoon after officers noticed him make a traffic violation on County Road 262.

Smith was accused of attempting to elude the officers on a private driveway and fled the area on foot.

A pursuit began but deputies were able to catch Smith quickly.

Officers searched Smith’s car and found a loaded gun. Smith is not allowed to have a gun because he is a convicted felon.

Smith was taken to the Callaway County Jail and faces possible charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, driving while revoked and trespassing.
