Boonville woman charged with intentionally hitting car, choking another woman

Boonville police arrested Opal Chapman on Saturday after officers responded to the 500 block of West Street to take an accident report.

When police arrived on scene, they were notified that Chapman had smacked her mother and then used her car to intentionally ram into her grandmother’s vehicle. She was then accused of leaving the scene.

According to the probable cause statement, Chapman came back when officers were still on scene and began yelling and screaming at her mom.

Police said when Chapman was taken into custody, she tried to pull away and continued to yell at her mom. She was also accused of making a quick lunge towards an officer in an attempt to head butt him.

Once Chapman was inside the police vehicle, she began to beat her head against the cage partition in front of her causing a deep cut to her forehead.

According to the probable cause statement, Chapman said she was going to come back and slice her mother’s throat when she got out of jail.

The damage of the grandmother’s vehicle was estimated to be $1,500.

Chapman was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, property damage, domestic assault and resisting arrest.

According to public jail records, Chapman is currently in the Cooper County Jail.
