Large law enforcement presence in Laddonia after wanted felon flees on foot, hides in house

UPDATE 7:37 P.M.: George E. Johnson Jr., 30, was taken into custody on a felony warrant of arrest for endangering the welfare of acChild and a misdemeanor warrant of arrest for violation of an ex-parte after an hours long standoff. Both warrants were for Montgomery County.

An Audrain County resident reported seeing Johnson in Laddonia, according to the press release. Law enforcement was notified and found that Johnson had left the area. Johnson was spotted driving in Montgomery County by a Montgomery County Deputy.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle Johnson was driving, when Johnson fled. Officers followed Johnson to his family member’s home, where he hid.

A search warrant was obtained and Johnson was found by the Audrain County Sheriff’s K9 hiding in a crawlspace under the home.

Johnson threatened suicide with a knife, but after hours of negotiation, Johnson was taken to the Montgomery County Jail.

Elizabeth A. Goodwin, 54, of Laddonia was arrested for hindering prosecution and was taken to Audrain County Jail.

ORIGINAL STORY: Sheriff Matt Oller with the Audrain County Sheriff’s Department reported on Thursday evening that multiple officers responded to a residence on Locust Street in Laddonia.

Oller said the large law enforcement presence follows a vehicle pursuit through Montgomery and Audrain County with a wanted felon.

The suspect was accused of getting out of his car, fleeing on foot and hiding in a house.

Oller said the situation is contained and there is no safety issue for the public.
