Columbia police arrest man accused of punching woman, breaking two doors

Columbia police arrested Davontay Hayes on Monday afternoon after officers responded to the 1500 block of Vandiver Drive for reports of a domestic assault.

Police said Hayes and a female victim were in a verbal argument when Hayes became violent.

The victim told police that she tried to stop Hayes from taking some her things as he was packing his bag when Hayes struck her with a closed fist multiple times and pushed her down to the floor.

Hayes was also accused of pushing her into the bedroom door and causing the door to break off the hinges.

Officers said Hayes dragged her outside and down the front steps then let her go. The victim said she ran back inside and locked the door, but Hayes forced the door open, breaking the door casing.

Police said the victim had a small cut to her hand and a bruise under her eye.

Hayes faces possible charges of domestic assault and property damage.
