Boone County officials to host second training on threats toward houses of worship

Boone County Office of Emergency Management officials will host a second training event Tuesday night about the current threats and past incidents at houses of worship and faith-based events.

A spokesperson for the event said the training is designed for church officials and those responsible for site security and safety at houses of worship as well as law enforcement.

The first training took place at the Little Bonne Femme Baptist Church on Mar. 10. Staff from several churches went to the training.

The events are hosted by the Boone County Office of Emergency Management and the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC).

Officials will provide recommendations to enhance security measures and provide techniques to aid in preventing further incidents.

Sherril Gladney, a planning and preparedness specialist said this training is “something houses of worship and faith community leaders have requested in an effort to provide for the well being of the faith community.”

The training Tuesday starts at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church on 16 Hitt Street, and it is free and open to the public.
